How Content Marketers Can Beat Writers Block

Searching for le mot juste is tough, but can be dealt with

Beating Writer's Block for Content Marketers

Like anyone who has to produce content, I also encounter writer’s block. What do I write about today? What topics are important for my company’s clients and target audience? Let’s face it, producing content is difficult. Searching for le mot juste is an obstacle many content marketers encounter. They don’t want to sound salesman-like; they want to tell a story. They don’t want to talk to the consumer; they want to engage with consumers.

Norman Mailer had a rule to overcome writer’s block, “If you tell yourself you are going to be at your desk tomorrow, you are by that declaration asking your unconscious to prepare the material.” There are many things content marketers can write about.

1. Your company. Sure, it may not seem interesting at first, but your company is a great topic to blog about. Customers would like to know more about what your company does. This is a excellent opportunity to share with your audience any news, new products, research, or the history of the company, especially some new fact that had been recently learned.

2. Infographics. Instead of writing something, content marketers can create an infographic. Infographics are creative ways to share new knowledge and/facts. People love visual presentations and infographics are very easy to make. Infogr.am and Piktochart offer easy-to-use templates to create infographics.

3. Theme. Look back on your previous blogs. You may find certain posts that got the most reads. You could use those to continue the story you were telling, whether it be about best practices in marketing, or networking tips, new trends or ideas, etc. People are always looking to learn something new.

4. Don’t be original. It’s true, you don’t have to be original. Read something and then offer your opinion about it, explain why you agree or disagree with what the marketing expert has said. Do you think social media is good for marketing? Why or why not?

There are many ways content marketers can put words together. Get producing!

Social Media is a great way to stay up-to-date with friends and family, but beware! Sharing, or in some cases oversharing, can have repercussions when it comes to insurance rates and claims.
